What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for a variety of presenting problems.  CBT utilizes the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors to create increased awareness of unhelpful thinking patterns and lasting change through a variety of behavioral interventions.  CBT treatment tends to be more present-focused, goal-directed, and collaborative.  You can expect that throughout treatment you will be learning and utilizing strategies between sessions to create generalization in different settings and contexts.  CBT can help you to notice patterns in thinking and behavior which have made you feel “stuck.” Interventions may include shifting perspectives, problem-solving, and approaching feared situations. 


How do I begin?

Prior to our first session, we will schedule a brief complimentary phone consultation, where we can talk about what brings you to treatment, and what you are hoping to gain. I’ll have the opportunity to answer any questions you might have and make sure I am the right fit for you.  During this call we will also schedule an initial intake appointment. During this appointment, we will discuss current symptoms or difficulties, past treatment experiences, relevant history, and goals for our work together.  

How often will we meet? 

Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes, once per week.  

Do you offer in-person sessions? 

I offer in-person sessions in my Ridgefield CT office. I also offer virtual telehealth sessions through Zoom. I am licensed in CT and NY, and hold a certification through PSYPACT which allows me to provide telehealth to clients located in any PSYPACT participating state.  


Do you accept insurance?

I am considered an out-of-network provider, and do not accept insurance directly. I recommend that prior to beginning treatment, you speak with your insurance company to inquire about reimbursement or coverage for out of network services.  If you would like to submit for reimbursement, I will provide regular billing statements with all necessary information. 


What forms of payment are accepted?

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit card payments through a secure client portal. 


What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let me know within 24 hours. If we are able to reschedule our appointment within the same week, there is no charge. Sessions canceled without 24 hours notice are charged at the full session fee.
